Killarney hosts some of Ireland's most beloved recurring events. Whether you're drawn by sport, music, spectacle or community, there is a week in the calendar when Killarney is the place to be.
The annual calendar
March
St Patrick's Day Festival
A three-day festival centred on the 17th March parade through the town. Live music, street entertainment and community events. One of Kerry's most atmospheric St Patrick's Day celebrations.
April / May
Rally of the Lakes
One of Ireland's premier motorsport events — rally cars tear through the Kerry countryside over the May Bank Holiday weekend. Spectacular stages around Killarney and the surrounding mountains. Free to spectate at many locations.
May
Killarney Walking Festival
A long weekend of guided walks across the National Park, the MacGillycuddy's Reeks and the surrounding area. Routes for all abilities. One of Ireland's best walking events, run by experienced local guides.
May
Wander Wild Festival
An outdoor adventure and wellness festival that has grown rapidly in recent years. Activities include hiking, cycling, kayaking, yoga, wild swimming and live music. Based in Killarney town with events across the National Park.
June
Ireland Bike Fest
Ireland's largest motorcycle festival draws tens of thousands of bikers to Killarney for a long weekend of custom bike shows, live music and scenic touring routes through Kerry. The town centre transforms completely.
July
Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle
Over 10,000 cyclists take on the full 172km Ring of Kerry loop in a single day in aid of Kerry charities. One of Ireland's great sporting and community occasions. Registrations typically open in February.
July
Killarney Races — Summer Festival
Four days of flat racing at Killarney Racecourse set against a backdrop of lakes and mountains. One of the most scenically beautiful racing venues in Europe. Evening meetings in the long summer light are especially atmospheric.
August
Kerry County Show
An agricultural show celebrating Kerry's farming heritage. Livestock competitions, crafts, food producers and entertainment. A reminder of the rural life that exists beyond the tourist trail.
October
Killarney Races — Autumn Festival
A three-day autumn festival at Killarney Racecourse. Slightly quieter than the summer meeting but equally enjoyable. The autumn colours in the surrounding National Park make it particularly beautiful.
December
Christmas in Killarney
Killarney goes all out for Christmas — market stalls, carol singing, decorated streets and a genuinely festive atmosphere in the town centre. One of the best Christmas experiences in Ireland outside Dublin.
