Golf in Killarney

Killarney Golf and Fishing Club is one of Ireland's most celebrated golf venues — and the scenery is a large part of why. The club has two championship courses, Mahony's Point and Killeen, both set on the western shore of Lough Leane with the MacGillycuddy's Reeks rising behind. Playing golf with that backdrop — the lake silver in the morning light, the mountains beyond — is an experience that goes well beyond the game itself.

Mahony's Point

Mahony's Point is the more celebrated of the two courses — its 18th hole, played alongside the lake with the mountains as a backdrop, is one of the most photographed holes in Irish golf. The course is a mix of parkland and links-influenced design, using the natural contours of the lakeshore terrain. It has hosted the Irish Open and several other major professional tournaments over the decades.

Killeen Course

The Killeen course is slightly longer and considered the more challenging of the two, with tighter fairways and more demanding approach shots. Like Mahony's Point it makes extensive use of the lakeside setting — several holes play directly alongside Lough Leane. It has also hosted professional tournament golf and is a worthy challenge for low-handicap visitors.

Visiting golfers

Killarney Golf and Fishing Club welcomes visiting golfers throughout the year. Tee times for both courses can be booked online or by phone. Green fees vary by season — summer weekends are premium, midweek and off-season rates are more accessible. The clubhouse has a bar and restaurant and is a worthwhile stop even for non-golfers visiting the lakeside area.
